Actually, this does not work (cygwin1.dll 1.5.12(0.116/4/2)), with the same error as without the extra dot, but the following does work: $ mv tiny_mdi_example_without_ggdb.exe another-name $ mv another-name tiny_mdi_example_without_ggdb no extra dot needed.
