Under Unix, the directory in which you mount a partition must exist: $ mount /dev/hda /nirvana mount: /nirvana: No such file or directory or a similar message. From the perspective of Cygwin's mount, there's no /tmp directory at the moment you use it to mount c:\temp\mnt\tmp into it. That's all. In contrast to Unix, that's not breaking the mount, so you only get a warning. Use mount's -f option to suppress the warning message.
