Firstly, sorry, but I am afriad I cannot CYMTNQREAIYR - it's out of my control. Next, my dir /etc/services returns services -> C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\services* so it IS a symlink to Windows.

Secondly, the /etc/services file seems ok, but in Cygwin it's actually a symlink to the one in the Windows system directory. Do you have the symlink on your system, or is /etc/services a file? If it's a file, Windows (in particular, winsock) won't be aware of it. Igor
