The version of astyle provided by Cygwin is quite old. Version 2.06 is from

Would it be reasonable to update to the latest version?

That old 2.06 accepts some options that were long ago deprecated. The newer
versions have removed those options (apparently replaced with different
spellings). This causes some grief trying to share .astylerc config files
with people who might have different versions of astyle installed.

I'd be happy to help. But I don't know anything about developing packages
for Cygwin, so I'd need some guidance.

Hi Michael
currently we are missing a maintainer
https://cygwin.com/packages/summary/astyle-src.html
so if you want to volounteer

please join the cygwin-apps mailing list
https://cygwin.com/lists.html

and start reading the documentation on https://cygwin.com/packages.html

you will need minimum to install the cygport package.
It is the tool we are using to build and deply the other packages

You can download the old script from
https://cygwin.com/cgit/cygwin-packages/astyle/

Regards
Marco
