That's exactly what cygstart does: $ cygstart .../setup $ ps -W | egrep 'COMMAND|setup' PID PPID PGID WINPID TTY UID STIME COMMAND 7080 0 0 7080 ? 0 10:10:48 C:\...\setup-x86_64.exe as I use it in a script which kills Cygwin processes after launching setup. -- Take care.
