Cursor manipulation in python/curses

Hello,

this is the first time I am writing to this list, so I apologize if this is way off-topic...

Is there any possible way to hide the terminal cursor with curses in cygwin/python? The curs_set function always returns ERR (as pointed out in several examples in the demo files for python), and I wasn't able to generate an escape sequence to do such thing.
