Is it the case that your passwd file does not contain sids, i.e. wasn't built with mkpasswd, and does not contain either a line starting with your Windows username? If so, I would recommend running mkpasswd -l > /etc/passwd (backup the passwd file first; use mkpasswd -d -l if you are a domain user), and edit your entry as you like it. If not so, please send me the outputs of "id" and "strace true".
