CULTURAL INFORMATION SYSTEM IN THE BALTIC SEA REGION!
We are pleased to announce that the Municipality of Klaipeda (Lithuania) has finished
the implementation of PHARE funded project “Culture Information System for Tourism
Development”. The project’s aim was to develop Cultural Information System and
Internet interface that would include the most topical information on cultural
institutions from Klaipeda (Lithuania) and Liepaja (Latvia) being a project partners,
as well as information on main cultural events, places of interest and cultural life
news.
Cultural Information System is integrated into the general GIS of Klaipeda City being
its inseparable part; therefore information can also be displayed on the city map. All
information provided is in English, German and Lithuanian.
It also has to be mentioned that Cultural Information System is free and easy to use.
Any cultural institution is welcome to register, present it’s activities and indicate
location on the map.
The project “Culture Information System for Tourism Development” was implemented in
parallel with the other PHARE funded project “Information System to SME’s of the
Baltic Sea Region”, that aimed to develop analogical information system for
enterprises being also integrated into the general GIS of Klaipeda City.
Currently the system has a common name of Information System of the Baltic Sea Region
and can by found on the Web site:

or you simply take any interest on cultural institutions, from Klaipeda and/or
Liepaja, as well as on artists, publications, places of interest or schedules of

GIS system and interface were designed and implemented by Lithuanian-Icelandic
joint-stock-company “HNIT-BALTIC GeoInfoServisas” and currently is supported and
administrated by Klaipeda city municipality. The Art House of Klaipeda will also
ensure sustainable maintenance of the Cultural Information System.
