The problem was eventually solved by running the following command from a remote bash shell: net use k: \\\\chez\\jtwilley myrealpassword /persistent:yes And yes, I had to use my real password. This enabled me to use /cygdrive/j as well as /cygdrive/k and //chez/jtwilley. Goodness. I can kinda sorta see why, but it's really ugly and annoying.
