Jay, I assume you want X forwarding when you're running X. If not, just turning it off might do the trick. Does OpenSSH work if you don't run X but set DISPLAY in your system control panel? Does OpenSSH have a -v flag or a verbose option? If so, it might help. If not, does cygwin's 'ssh -X' work (with and without DISPLAY set)? If you can reproduce the problem with cygwin's ssh, use the -v option for some additional debug info.
