I'm not convinced that this will help. As mentioned already, there was a very specific change between cygwin releases that resulted in the slow down. It would be more helpful if someone actually compared the source, ran some profiles and figured out which change it was that actually caused the slowdown. From that, we can then properly assess the situation and decide on the best way to address it.
