Oh, and if anybody wants to try and speed this up, you can download this -src package http://cygwin.cwilson.fastmail.fm/ITP/telnet-0.17-1-src.tar.bz2 for the upcoming telnet/telnet-server packages, and try to get it working. Current state: the telnet client seems to work just as well as the inetutils telnet client -- which is to say, it exhibits the same odd behavior when connected to the (current) inetutils telnetd -- but this new telnetd is non-functional (coredumps). However, my gut tells me that the problem is in the telnet client side, and not the server, so... Anyway, unpack, edit the cygport to add CFLAGS="-g -O0", and cygport ./telnet-0.17-1.cygport prep build and hack away at the telnet client (while running the inetutils telnetd). Bonus...fix this new telnetd so it doesn't coredump, and actually works.
