This may be where some of my MAJOR confusion is coming from....... I do not use cygwin nor do I have it installed on my NT machine......I am using a new windows dd port that was announced on a SANS webcast yesterday.....
www.sans.org/webcasts/dd/ When I emailed <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and told them my problem originally, they told me that my notation should work and to contact the cygwin people...... Here is the exact message that I got back from <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - - - - - - - - - - Hmm... That does seem like it should work. Try the Cygwin folks at the following locations. Bob http://cygwin.com/ Cygwin Home Page http://cygwin.com/faq/ Cygwin FAQ. Most excellent! http://cygwin.com/bugs.html Cygwin Bug Report Guidelines. This is a good reference for general bug reporting. - - - - - - - - - - I tried your notation (/dev/fd0) but of course it doesn't work cuz I am not using cygwin........So I am not sure who to turn to now........ Thanks for your patience and time........ Um. No, you weren't. >I even tried the following and it didn't work......(gave me "No Such >File or Directory" error) > >dd if=D:\dd\boot2.img of=//device/floppy0 >dd if=D:\dd\boot2.img of=//device/fd0 Where did you get //device? This is not what is documented. Use /dev/fd0. That's what is suggested in the documentation. You'll also probably be safer using cygwin notation for all of your filenames, i.e.: dd if=/cygdrive/d/dd/boot2.img of=/dev/fd0 >Why is it telling me permission denied when I try it the other >way....... ?? > >dd if=D:\dd\boot2.img of=\\.\A: ....... > >?? Calm down. The other way doesn't work anymore. That's why there is an advisory about Cygwin 1.3.4. cgf -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Bug reporting: http://cygwin.com/bugs.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
