That's unexpected.  I had cygwin-rdbxbdvo6bxqt0dzr+a...@public.gmane.org, but I 
changed to the username
I use to push to newlib-cygwin and that worked.

Not really: if you push using a sourceware account name rather than cygwin@, you're bypassing gitolite, which is what enforces the restrictions on branch names.
