ID is slightly unusual because it should probably be written "Id." and might be said "Id" not "eye-dee". Thus it has aspects of an acronym (it looks like one and is pronounced like one), but isn't actually formed from initials. (Of course, if something is an acronym or an initialism depends a bit on what dialect you speak.
