Well, make sure you got ldconfig_compat 1.0_2 or newer - I poked Florent to make it work without human intervention just few hours ago.
The only thing I just noticed is that the port offers ldconfig_compat, so if you need the mysql shared lib in another rcNG script I think it should require ldconfig and ldconfig_compat.
