But how about instead discussing what protocols we should keep allowing by default? Is anyone ever using redirects (and expecting them to work) to anything but HTTP, HTTPS and FTP ?


I totally agree. This would stir towards more sane defaults for everyone that will frankly never use such redirects.
Users will still be able to (explicitly) opt-in for other schemes anyway.

I'll prepare a PR for this and let everyone comment there, in case there are objections.
