Thanks to all who tested. So it looks like Safari/Lion users are out. Ok, that 
is a minority of users, none who (should) have a retina laptop (and the 2 who 
bought a rMBP on the 1st day of sale and never upgraded to 10.8+ deserve 
problems!).

Yeah, your old PowerPC Mac is getting quite old for the modern web (mines 
crashes on most heavy sites …). As for Linux Mint, I guess you’re using 
Firefox? Support for picture/srcset is rumoured to come with Fx38.

I certainly hope so, else I’d worry about your iOS device!

Bottomline, for my basic needs on this project using srcset will work perfectly 
(covers ~80%+ of phone/tablet users), the few losers are Firefox users on 
highDPI laptops. One less js file and less fudging in the stylesheet to get 
what I want.
