I can't explain that (IE generally honors padding for images), but changing padding-left for the image to margin-left seems to fix this.

For some reason in IE it's not seeing the img.tagline class in the css file

Judged from what I see in the inspection mode that one can enter using F12, IE 9 sees the class and displays the setting padding-left: 12.5em as being applied.
