In that case why not adapt borders so that they look like bullets!. for
example this would look like bullets in most browsers:
ul.navbar li {
background: white;
margin: 0.5em 0;
padding: 0.3em;
border-left: 1em lime solid;
}
I have deliberately used a border of 1em to make them really big!
