I have a series of three divs nested one inside the other - the reason being that the background of the content area needs images top and bottom with a third image filling the space in between when the content becomes too tall - but for some reason the images are overlapping in the wrong sequence.
The outermost div, which appears at the back has the vertically repeating image; the middle div has the top image; the innermost div has the bottom image and content. What is happening, however, is that the vertically repeating image from the background div is appearing in front of the bottom image which should be in the foreground. If I put a background colour on the middle div then the top and bottom images appear in the correct places, but having a background colour is not a viable option as it obscures the background behind the whole content area. I've used this technique previously and not encoountered this problem but I can't see what I've done differently.
