There is no need to touch the styles sheet ("switch" line or else).
You could go with these:
body.tree {background-image:url(tree.jpg);}
body.doc {background-image:url(doc.jpg);}
body.cat {background-image:url(cat.jpg);}

and then use JS (off-topic here) to swap classes
