It seems to work fine in FF, and I don't readily detect any difference 
in IE. Perhaps you could be more specific about what you mean by "not 
behaving logically". In the mean time, however, I wonder if you're 
misconstruing the way the box is calculated for <li>? Ie, that it's 
measured from the text not the dots? Good quick visual explanation here:

I dont see why variance in the image's width would matter -- If all the 
<div> is doing is adding margins/padding.
