It's possible that it's the background image you're using in #sidebar. I know this sounds like it shouldn't affect it, but I've had a problem with IE 6 in the past that sounds very similar to the one you describe. Try using an image that's not 1px wide. Anything greater than 1px works, I think. I don't remember the specifics of this bug, but I do remember that as soon as I used a slightly bigger bg image, everything came back to life in IE 6.
