Try looking at the max-width and overflow properties (although you will
likely get variable mileage in different browsers)

Subject: [css-d] How can I define a max column width and truncate
contents?

Hello All,

I am fairly new to css and could not figure out how to set a maximum
column width. Contents of the column come from a database and per layout
concerns I want to let a column extend only until a certain width, say
20 characters.
However all my tries were unsuccessful and the string length always
overrides the width attributes that I use. I can definitely do it on the
server side and receive only the first 20 characters but I would rather
do this with formatting. Any help would be appreciated.

Emre
