Well, it was not exactly what I wanted, but it does work.
For some reason, putting the header info , text/css, in the php file
does not work.
Instead, I had to put the below php code directly into my css file.
<?php
header('content-type:text/css');
header("Expires: ".gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s", (time()+900)) . " GMT");
?>
....css stuff goes here.....
.htaccess file:
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .css
php_value auto_prepend_file /path/to/compress-css.php
compress-css.php:
<?php
ob_start("compress");
function compress($buffer) {
// remove comments
$buffer = preg_replace('!/\*[^*]*\*+([^/][^*]*\*+)*/!', '',
$buffer);
// remove tabs, spaces, newlines, etc.
$buffer = str_replace(array("\r\n", "\r", "\n", "\t", ' ', '
', ' '), '', $buffer);
return $buffer;
}
?>
