You could probably "simulate" a table by setting your text as a
list and display: block;
<ul>
<li><a href="#" class="first color">text goes here</a></li>
<li><a href="#" class="second color">more text here</a></li>
</ul>
Set your a:hover classes with a different background: #xxx; and
voila, your "table" with alternating row colors onMouseOver.
