I think the pros and cons of Smarty go beyond the scope of this list,
no matter how you frame it. That said, from a CSS designer's
experience / point of view I like the model. It makes logical sense.

- php is already a hypertext-preprocessing language, so new syntax and
an extra level of abstraction ends up being distracting.

Now, what about templating your CSS? Does anyone have a system for
delivering smaller targetted versions of a potentially huge stylesheet
that leverages a templating system like Smarty? (trying desperately to
steer this on topic .. there is a interesting intersection here)
