Well, I can't share the correspondence with a member of the IE-team,
where he confirms that "'hasLayout' is a *buggy* feature" :-).
'hasLayout' is "an IE internal data structure", and we have included
information about how to detect 'hasLayout'-status in the 'hasLayout'
article[1].
