For commercial sites... maybe not. However, if we look at how much of
the 'stable css', that's in normal use, that's handled "pretty unstable"
by some browsers, then "early testing of new features" may not be such a
bad idea.

You mean like: "web designers should at least learn how browsers work" ?
Yeah, that would help tremendously... ;-)
It's not always all that obvious how any software works though.
