Thanks for the help I've solved it and the menu works fine in all
browsers except ie 5.2 on the mac then you don't see the background
color of id navlist2

the html, no css solution will work.

Hierarchical menus have been done hundreds of times.  Don't start  
from scratch, use the listamatic code as a starting point and save
