Why? That page isn't coded in accordance with XHTML specs anyway. It 
doesn't work as intended when served as XHTML.
Rather change doctype and code to HTML4.01 where there won't be any such 
mode/mime-induced variations, or get it up to specs if one wants to call 
it XHTML.
