Hello Philippe,

Thanks for your response.

You were right, it was the zoom level. Strange, as I very rarely apply it...(and it certainly never occurred to me that Firefox would remember it across sessions).
Anyway it's good to have that puzzle resolved.

I'll also act on your comment about the viewport meta tag.

Tim

I am puzzled that the live version of my site appears about 11% narrower in
Firefox than the local version, even though the CSS files are identical in all
relevant respects. The sites are in the same browser window, but on different
tabs, of course. Both sites have a 'max-width' of 900px set on the body.

The live version is at: http://mull-bed-and-breakfast.co.uk

One wild shot in the dark: is the zoom level for both pages / domains the same
(Firefox remembers the zoom level across sessions – on a per-domain basis)?
Press Cmd/Ctrl + 0 to reset them both.

Otherwise, I have no idea - esp. as I can’t see what you see… :-)

(aside)
I notice this in your viewport meta tag: `maximum-scale=1; ` this has
absolutely NO effect anymore in Mobile Safari (browser ignores it, an let the
user as much as they want). Luckily.
