Issue #653 has been updated by Nicholas Chin.
These are not unrelated toolchain bugs. They appear to be related to the submodules which you updated in your patch. I've previously mentioned that you should not be changing those. Please do not simply open issues and mark them as immediate with urgent due dates. It will not resolve your issue any sooner and just annoys developers.
