Applications are invited from Book Conservator to join the Collections Team at London Metropolitan Archives (LMA). LMA is the largest local government archive repository in the United Kingdom. Based in Clerkenwell and administered by the City of London, its holdings run to around 100km of documents from 1067 to the present. LMA holds local government and other records for the Greater London area and the City of London. These collections have been awarded designated status by the Arts Council England and is an Accredited Archive Service. LMA is recruiting two post holders to work on two externally funded conservation projects. One project concentrates on archives owned by the City of London itself and those of the Church of England held in LMA. The other project related to the archives of Anglo-Jewry, both projects consist of a great variety of documents and formats such as volumes and bundles, covering the whole age range of the material at LMA. Under the direction of the Studio Manager, the postholder will assess the condition of selected collections and carry out the necessary conservation treatments to allow their safe access and long-term preservation. The successful candidate will also be asked to propose packaging solutions and estimate the time to stabilise the items unfit for handling and access. Applicants will have a recognised qualification in the fields of paper, archive or book conservation or equivalent with PACR accreditation from the Institute of Conservation or a commitment to gain accreditation.
