The British Museum is looking to recruit a Conservator to lead in the coordination of preventive conservation related activities concerning exhibitions and to proactively engage with public outreach activities of the Department of Conservation. Key areas of responsibility: · To act as lead conservation liaison and member of the core project team for all relevant projects. Contributing to exhibition delivery and providing conservation and preservation expertise, ensuring effective delivery to time and budget. · To independently solve complex problems regarding exhibition programme delivery, applying a high degree of expertise, judgement, innovation and adaptability. · To coordinate workflow across the Conservation Department to ensure project delivery. · To collaborate and influence colleagues and stakeholders on conservation, preventive conservation and collection care related matters. · Providing a point of continuous review to streamline and improve processes and procedures relating to the safeguarding of the collection. Person specification: With recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level or equivalent experience, you will have excellent knowledge of contemporary principles and practice in preventive conservation. You will have demonstrable practical skills in preventive conservation along with experience with display related activities and strong understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision making. You will be able to demonstrate considerable post qualification experience of working in the heritage sector and experience of devising preventive measures. You will be an effective communicator with experience of communicating/presenting to audiences, both public and professional. You will be able to demonstrate collaborative team working and communication skills and good liaison, negotiating, and influencing skills.
