Mellon Advanced Fellowship in Objects Conservation The Walters Art Museum seeks an outstanding candidate for an advanced training opportunity in the field of Objects Conservation funded by Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. For its term of two years, the fellowship will provide advanced conservation training and support scholarly research related to the collections of the Walters. Widely regarded as one of the finest museums in the United States, the Walters possesses an encyclopedic collection of eastern and western art. Applications are currently sought for a fellowship beginning in fall 2018. The Mellon Fellow will be fully integrated into the Department of Conservation and Technical Research and will have the opportunity to work closely with the staff conservators and conservation scientist as well as staff in the curatorial and education departments. The fellow will have access to the museum collections, analytical facilities, research libraries both within the museum and in the region and will enjoy all the professional privileges of the museum's staff. The Conservation staff at the Walters is committed to supporting professional activities both nationally and internationally. The Fellow will be encouraged to play an active role in a broad range of professional activities. The Fellowship combines the advanced training in the treatment of a diverse range of objects with a substantive research component. Approximately 50% of the Fellow's time will be spent on the museum's programmatic priorities including activities related to exhibitions, installations, loans and preventative care of the permanent collections, as well as public outreach through the museum's popular public "Conservation Window". The remaining time Fellow will focus on a research project, culminating in a publishable paper. The fellow will receive an annual stipend and a travel allowance. This position is full-time. Requirements: Applicants should be graduates of a recognized conservation graduate program or have equivalent experience.
