Dear all, We are a team of two conservators, an engineer and a student in engineering, and the preventive conservation department of the Louvre museum entrusted us with a study about individual protection systems for exhibited sculptures that can’t be moved (i.e. sculptures fixed to floor and wall), in case of flooding of the river Seine and consequently of the museum. The Louvre museum has a flood prevention plan (PPCI - Plan de Prevention Contre les Inondations) which coordinate the gradual evacuation of heritage collections exposed to immersion risks, thus the present study only concern exhibited irremovable sculptures.
We writte to the ConsDistList in order to find out whether other institutions conserving cultural heritage, potentially facing flooding issues and exhibiting irremovable artworks have already worked on the subject and maybe came out with some solutions. At the same time as we search what has been established in the cultural heritage sector, researches are conducted in other sectors to estimate if equipments created for similar applications could be transferred to the context of the Louvre.
