BOOK CONSERVATOR (B2) NATIONAL RECORDS OF SCOTLAND Salary : 28,033 - 32,130 pounds sterling Location: Edinburgh Hours Around 37 hours per week Closing Date: 3rd January 2018 at midnight Reference: IRC50007 Employment Type : Permanent Employee The National Records of Scotland collects, preserves and produces information about Scotland's people and history and makes it available to inform current and future generations. We are looking for an experienced conservator to join the team who are responsible for all aspects of conservation and preservation of the record collections in our care. The work is varied and, as well as core bench work, includes incident control, collection survey, assessment and preservation measures, contribution to conservation policy development and some staff management. NRS Conservators are required to work away from the bench, on occasion, in any of our 5 buildings in Edinburgh. There may also be occasional travel to sites to support collections throughout Scotland. Qualifications Required For this specialist post candidates must have a relevant qualification in book, archive and paper conservation. Essential criteria 1. Significant experience in book and or paper conservation 2. Excellent written and verbal communications skills to be able to explain clearly complex information in writing or speaking to individuals or groups. 3. Is adaptable and embraces new ways of doing things, contributing ideas to continuous improvement and preservation. 4. Can use evidence to assess, measure and evaluate projects or policies to make considered recommendations. Desirable criteria 1. ICT skills and familiarity specifically with DS Calm(r) electronic catalogue database and ability to use digital camera. 2.
