I would suggest you partition the drive into at least 2, but even 3 separate logical drives. This will speed up the seek time (search time) when your system is looking for files, but also aids when defragmenting/error-checking.
You should have some software provided by the hard drive manufacturer for partitioning the HDD. But HP is very proprietary in their OS integration, you may need to either use their software, or overide/ disable it to use your own.
