You give HBotSVN too much credit in the round 8 open game. Seki is completely unrecognized in playouts and scoring. HouseBot views the game as having one follow-up move, and it clearly leads to a loss. If all moves lose, it resigns. Before the end, HouseBot retained hope the opponent would break the seki first.
I also think the hardware for HBotSVN may be wrong, but I'll let Urban confirm.
