I won't argue that 19x19 is played a lot more, but I know many strong
players who play 9x9, with varying degrees of seriousness: because the
ranks tends to match 19x19 (the pro consistently beats the 6-dan beats
the 3-dan beats the 1-kyu, etc.) people can take it seriously and play
it when they don't have time for a 19x19 game.

BTW, see http://www.igoamigo.com/igofes/myoka/ (Japanese only) for a
Nihon-kiin 9x9 tournament involving all the top female Japanese pros.
They will be playing at 10s/move.

P.S. On the other hand I haven't yet found any pro 13x13 games. There
seems to be a few games played by strong amateurs on servers, and again
the rankings tend to match 19x19, but 9x9 seems much more popular.
