Woops,  let me finish that thought ....

My friends advice was that instead of resigning,  just play
"resignedly",  make your moves quickly as if you are resigned to losing
but want to finish the game informally.      This has actually worked
for me on occasion because the opponent let's his guard down and plays
fast too sometimes.   It's certainly worth a shot against weaker players.
