apply anywhere, take any job that you can
get, make yourself useful, find things to
improve around the place, write code where
it's helpful, and don't be afraid to pick
up a wrench. spend time with the guys who
spend their time with giant spools of wire.
eventually it will work out for you,
I got my current job by taking a couple of graduate classes at the
local college and asking a classmate to set me up with an interview
(which I was otherwise unable to get because I had no prior
professional software experience). I, of course, then quit the
classes :)
