Quoting Don Dailey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

It actually surpises me that go players care about this. I thought GO
was more about the beauty of ommision and the unstated understanding
of event that don't actually have to happen to be appreciated.

I think most players weaker than about amateur 1-3 Kyu often never have a clue
if they are ahead or behind when they play in close games. Thus they always try to get as many points as possible. Most dan players however make decisions based on what the score is. Also in order to play the endgame well you need to be able to play the biggest move which means most players are indeed fixated by playing
perfectly in the endgame even when it is not necessary. Then I know at least
one really strong 5-Dan player who often wins with 0.5 points. If he plays bad
in the endgame you know he actually crushed you in the middlegame....

So I think the weaker the player the more annoyed they get with MC-programs.
Stronger players knows when the game is over so when the "bad" moves comes it
does not matter to them. Weaker player simply do not see that is is all over.
