I understand this bug is marked Won't Fix. But I'd like to record that I'm getting same kind of error running Ubuntu 18.04 (latest), with Unity Desktop (which I prefer to GNOME).
I't a great shame he WorkSpaces won't work reliably for me - it is SUCH a useful feature if you have a lot of windows open on different concurrent workstreams.
