I've found that enabling "force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint" in the workaround plugin in CCSM eliminates the issue for me. Works on 14.04 with 337.12 and older 334 drivers. Despite the tooltip saying that it will cause a massive increase in cpu and gpu usage, there is no noticable increase on my system.
