Same thing, Precise final, xorg log attached. Thinkpad X220 Note - if I hit ctrl - alt F2 (or 3) to get to a terminal, login and then sudo killall Xorg, I can then get back to the login prompt and login. Not a nice workaround, but a workaround nonetheless.
