There hasn't been much further discussion on the dev list. I sense we left it in a place where we're open to the idea of accepting work like this, though we have a number of details to consider around how we do that. As it stands, there was consensus that we would accept early developmental work by bringing back the concept of the Tinkubator - basically an incubator for ideas that we'd consider experimental with limited or no support. I think we need a bit of structure around how Tinkubator is designed to work, but i sense it will live in this repository. I think it's just a root directory called `tinkubator/`. As such, I'd expect that this PR would need to be adjusted for that directory. That said, I'm not clear what the bar is to accept this and other work to the Tinkubator.
