I think it would also need a CAN transceiver and connector to be usable. I think with this board we would need to used something like an MCP 2515. I think we are on the way to a clean BSP for the Giant Board that we can be proud of. I have started thinking about buying one again (you can get them from Mouser now). You have inspired me. We should announce the support on Twitter...
